HSCRB remains committed to ensuring that our international scholars and students are supported. In September, the Department of Homeland Security published a proposed rule that would impact individuals obtaining new F- and J-visas. Whereas these individuals have previously been admitted to the U.S. for the duration of their visa status, the proposed rule would implement 2- and 4-year time limits for stay.
While the proposed rule would include a process to renew the time limit of stay, we believe that these added limits would bring undue stress and uncertainty to the scholars who contribute so much to our community. We are actively working with Harvard University to take action against this proposed rule, including by submitting a public comment expressing our serious concerns.
